Originally from the Washington, DC area, I moved to South Georgia where I finished my last two years of high school. I then attended Valdosta State University on a full acting scholarship before switching my major to psychology and moved to Atlanta.
After graduating with my psychology degree, I worked at the Marcus Autism Center and began graduate school for professional counseling at my alma mater. Although my goal was mental health counseling, I completed my practicum at Georgia State Career Services where I worked with an incredible team and fell in love with career counseling.
After graduation (and ten years of living in Atlanta), I was hired as a Career Counselor at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. I took a huge risk and moved almost 3,000 where I knew absolutely no one. As an only child in a military family, I was used to relocating and although challenging, I knew I could develop the relationships necessary to be successful personally and professionally.
At Boise State, I worked as an in-person Career Counselor for six years and then researched and created a proposal for my position to transition to fully remote at the end of 2018. The role was developed to meet the needs of students/alumni who experienced barriers to accessing career services. It was approved in early 2019 for a year pilot period and I made the road trip across the country with a 75 pound dog and my cat back to Georgia in June 2019.
Little did I know, a year later in 2020, the world would go through an incredible shift and the world of work would be changed drastically. I was fortunate enough to be able to coach my team through the transition to working remotely and continue to support students and alumni all over the globe.
I am excited to reconnect with the Georgia Career Development Association and stay informed about best practices in the field. Looking forward to meeting you!
