With technological advancements, shifting labor markets, economic disruptions, societal pressures, and a changing political landscape, the world of work is rapidly evolving. This conference will explore the impact of these transformative changes on the career trajectories of our clients and students.

Sessions will focus on effective strategies for supporting individuals through career uncertainty, addressing systemic barriers, and leveraging innovative resources that empower people to reshape their professional paths. We’ll also discuss how to foster inclusivity, adaptability, and growth in the face of ongoing disruptions, equipping you with the tools to guide clients and students toward success.

Opening Session: Evolving Our Practice in Response to Chaos, Disruption, and Uncertainty

An overview of present issues affecting work, the implications for career development work, and recommendations for how to respond.  

Panel Discussion: Responding to Changes and The Impact on Our Clients and Students

A facilitated panel discussion featuring career development professionals. They will discuss their work with clients and students, the challenges clients and students are facing, and how they support them in the midst of change. 

Final Session: Where Do We Go From Here?  Our Commitment to Our Clients and Students

Attendees will reflect on the actions they can take to be supportive career development professionals and share final thoughts and takeaways.

About Our Speaker:

Marian Higgins, Ph.D.
Associate Dean for Organizational Development and Culture
J. Mack Robinson College of Business

Since her first job as a career counselor after graduating from college, Dr. Marian Higgins has served in roles where she strategically advocates for changing policies and practices to advance more welcoming and accessible environments. Each step of her journey has increased her capacity to champion the rights and interests of people, especially those marginalized and underserved.

Dr. Higgins has an extensive career in higher education supporting students, fostering inclusive environments, and serving in leadership roles. She advocated for change in K-12 schools while co-chairing a local school governance team and providing workshops to educators.A licensed professional counselor, Dr. Higgins is the owner of Be Inspired Counseling and Consulting, a company where she partners with organizations to transform their learning and work environments so everyone can thrive and be successful. She is an experienced speaker and host of Dive In, a podcast focused on career development issues for different populations.

Dr. Higgins received her Ph.D. in counseling and personnel services from The University of Georgia, a Master of Science degree in counseling from the University of Memphis, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

She is a member of the 2018 National Career Development Association’s Counselor Educator Academy cohort and the recipient of the Georgia Career Development Association’s Outstanding Career Development Professional Award; ACPA-College Educators International Commission for Career Services’ Commitment to Social Justice in Career Services Award; and the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers Champion of Diversity Award.
